Sure. I just finished the assembly and installation of a little kit
for a digital LED frequency display to go with my CR88 receiver. It's
an example of smart technology--an improvement that makes sense. It
sits on top of or next to the set and provides A-line or R390
frequency resolution. The CR88 is unchanged except for the tap I put
on the 6J5 local oscillator plate to drive the display.

I am not against technology; I'm against stupid technology. Stupid
technology is anything that doesn't do anything different, and is more
complex and hard to use. Push buttons instead of knobs. Internet
connections for your clothes dryer and toaster. People really need to
check their washing machine via the internet? There's a lot of that
referred to as "digital" as if because it is digital, it _must_ be
better. Digital voice two way radio in some cases. Medium wave
digital broadcast radio. But smart technology: digital photography,
GPS, email, LED lamps for some purposes and other examples.

Granted, even the geartrain of an R-390A is simple compared to the dimensions of complexity involved with getting an 8-engine bomber off the ground, but I see a good deal of similarities in keeping our old birds on, or in, the air.
