[Boatanchors] AM linear question

Not really! the DX-100 should not be run at more than 135-watts input on phone.  The 6146 is rated at 67.5 watts input for AM phone operation and that means like around 90-watts carrier output maximum.  Heath was not known for rating transmitters conservatively!  The rating of 160-watts input for phone on the DX-100 was definitely excessive!

For best tube life, the DX-100 needs to be run at between 75-watts and 80-watts output.

However, the less than 3 dB power increase is definitely not worth it!
