A friend of mine recently picked up a nice Scott SLRM Marine receiver. I
was surprised to learn that it was a hot chassis, AC/DC set.

Anyway, that got me thinking about the 'war of the currents' and the
eventual supremacy of AC over DC for commercial power.

Imagine my 'shock', when reading further, I discovered that HVDC is in
widespread use for long haul power transmission:
