Not having a hinged lid on top would be a big inconvenience and
drawback.  If I had to make a choice in that case I'd probably choose
to run the set out in the open.  I've done that in some cases going
back to my Novice days even when I had a cabinet.  Why hide away all
the interesting circuits, components and action.
