[Boatanchors] Question from an admitted 'Newbie'

I, and most of us probably, remember when "boatanchor" was said
sneeringly at any transmitter or receiver that predated cheap
light-weight slopbucket gear. Perfectly fine SX101s and NC303s etc.
which were only maybe 10 years old or not even that and still popular
with novice CW stations as hand-me-downs were "boatanchors."

Many it seemed were ga ga for sweep tube transceivers, including me at
the time, and anything big and heavy (and built like a tank) was
considered old and therefore, inferior. I remember seeing that gear
sold at fests with barely hidden disdain. Now it's a love fest which
is great but it is important to not forget.
