Lee, since this largely appears to be leveled at me, let me reply.
Collecting and restoring radio gear is a hobby for me, not a business. I
have a full-time job that pays very well. And I work very hard at it.
Buying / selling / trading radios, I get to learn more with every radio I
fix. It pleases me to take a piece of gear that does not work and fix it.
I get to grow my shack / test bench and use new (to me) gear, some of which
I've lusted over for the last 44 years. I like the idea being able to get on
the air with my Marauder / 2B, C-line, S-line, CE-100V / HQ-170, or other
equipment in the shack. Virtually nothing comes into my shack that I don't
spend some time using - SSB, AM, and especially CW - for the fun of it.
When I no longer want a piece of equipment, I sell it. But of course, none
of this matters relative to discussing selling prices.
Bottom line to your post: if you think I am a Hamfest-Greedy bottom feeder
because I often sell at market value rather than at the near giveaway prices
expected by some at hamfests, then it is clear to me that I'm wasting my
time typing this as logic and common sense defy you. And if truly you would
rather scrap your gear on your demise than have it sold, then your logic and
common sense frankly leaves me at a complete loss for words.
Lee, I as well prefer reading about boatanchors on this list. Other than
this exchange over the last few days, I seldom post anything, so please get
off your "... change it to... Ham Equipment Marketing and Buying Tips group.
Maybe even call it Hamfest Greed" high horse. But I did want to defend those
who don't "give crap away" at swaps from being called "bottom feeders".

I agree with you, Bob. This is supposed to be a hobby. However, it appears
to many this is just a business. I'm sick of it all. I own a Collins KW-1,
Johnson Desk KW, Hallicrafters SX-88 to just name a few and I am 76. I am
beginning to think most do not deserve having any of my gear once I depart
and am considering having it all destroyed and sent to a scrap yard upon my
demise by writing these instructions into my will. Reading this groups
comments each and everyday it appears the name should be changed from
Boatanchors to Ham Equipment Marketing and Buying Tips group. Maybe even
call it Hamfest Greed.
Lee, w0vt
