I'm guessing the multiple $5 bids could be the result of two or more
legitimate bidders using the eBay "auto-bidding" system where you put in
your "Max" bid and eBay bids for you just enough to stay ahead of other
bids?

IMHO, that set of very pristine-looking gear probably IS worth $600.  But
not a grand.  Let's keep watching...
