Bob, I don't know how much experience you have so forgive me if I am
going over things you already know.  I'm with Jim on waiting for a
good vacuum rectifier.   One other thing you need to do is drop the
line v. down to 115 v. or less.  There are various ways of doing that.
 I usually look for various multi-tap auto transformers at hamfests.
They're often in boxes under tables because for many they are an
unglamorous odd ball item so you have to dig around to uncover them.
But then you get them cheap.   You can also use a filament winding on
a regular power supply transformer.   I can't remember but you might
be able to use the 5 v. winding in the 183D transformer if you solid
state the rectifier,   Of course you can get a variac but that's the
pricey way to go : )
