OK, maybe I get more deliveries than most folks. I get on average, 1 per day via the USPS, UPS or FedEX.
Just got an old Hallicrafter receiver today (just barely) that somehow survived. Guess because it was only coming a couple of hundred miles, that's why.
It was dropped off under my carport (during a rainstorm) with the flaps of the box open and a couple of hundred pink peanuts flying around my yard. I have shipped and received several thousand items and there is nothing (!!) worse than seeing a box in your yard with a knob sticking out of the box!!! This includes R-390As, and LOTs of older HP test equipment.
Here are just a couple of 'tips' that will make the shipment MUCH more secure and add only pennies to the cost:
1. if using 'peanuts', put them in a plastic trash bag! Don't just dump them in the box and place the item on top. It WILL work it's way to the bottom!!!
2. place tape across BOTH directions of the box. I have received several item recently where the box's flap was open.
I think the best packed item ever, was an HP 8640B what was double boxed with the inner box using 'foam-in-place' panels. Even UPS couldn't hurt it.
