Another thing:
For me personally (what you do is not my business, 
so don't take offense where none is offered)-
I would find spending $12,000 on a ham radio toy 
morally repellant, same as a $70,000 car 
or a $600,000 house.  
There's a lot I can do for my family with $12,000.
Blowing that kind of money on a "plastic toy" radio
that's going to be a dead door stop in 20 years
because you can't get the 100-pin-chip 
is just appalling to me.  
I'm happy with a simpler radio I can fix with 
a forked-stick and a pocket knife.
