True, but ceramic resonators can be pulled a lot and they are actually 
cheaper than "a dime a dozen" - one Thailand ebay seller is offering 50 
pcs for $3.99 shipped. Search for "455 resonator".

These are not precision devices (typical spec: Frequency Deviation: 
≤±0.4%) - so you will definitely have to provide a trimmer capacitor or 
other means for setting each resonator on the desired frequency. I've 
only used them in solid state circuits but if the voltage and current in 
your oscillator is kept low, I'd bet they will work in tube circuits as 
well. Cheap enough to experiment and find out!
