Dick,

Look for a pair of 6939 tubes.  They are beefed up 6146s and work well.  In 
the Valiant there is not really a particular variant to avoid but just 
remember to neutralize whatever you put in it.  The B and W variants can 
have a bit different inter-electrode capacitance.
