It depends upon where it is to be installed. Radial lead capacitors fit PC
boards (assuming that the proper hole spacing is used) but not parallel row
terminal boards. If you install radial lead capacitors on that style
terminal board, you have to bend the leads 90 deg. If you do this the lazy way
(by just bending them out without proper tools), you usually crack the
brittle outer coating. Another disadvantage, if the set is portable or vehicular,
is that in the higher value capacitors, you end up with a large mass
supported by two soft leads in torsion. Shock from drops or rough terrain will
eventually bend the leads.
On the other hand, if you are installing a bypass capacitor between two
tube socket or connector contacts, a radial lead capacitor will probably be a
neater fit than an axial lead one.
