A tube type GDO is generally much more sensitive than a solid-state GDO even though the tube type has a power cord as a disadvantage. For example, the Heath GD-1 series (by far the most common version is the GD-1B) are still used by many whereas the solid-state HM-10 series and the HD-1250 are gathering dust.
The Millen 90651 and 90651A, especially the 90651A, are very good working GDOs and there are still a lot of those in use.
The Rolls Royce of GDOs is the Measurements 59. The control box is relatively large, but the oscillator head (with the coil) is much smaller.
I do have the fairly rare Heath GD-1, a Heath GD-1B, a Millen 90651A, and a Measurements 59. Each GDO has applications in which a particular unit works better than the others.

Good evening All,
Well that's a new one. I will file that away as a just in case.
Glade to hear it now working. The Millen GDO is a real work Horse. One of
my winter project this year is to rework one that I picked up with a bad
power transformer. I am going to make it a solid state version. Just one
less power cord to work around on the work bench.
