There were two Kobitone elements that work quite well however one was closer to the D-104 audio characteristics than the other. Knowing they were going to go obsolete I bought 25 of them as I have nearly that many D-104s. I wish now I had bought a thousand of them now as I could make a nice profit from them. Oh well. On the air reports are as good or better than the original elements but a lot depends on the original element you are comparing to and the rig. I think K9STH has details on the conversion if you can find anyone with elements for sale, which mine are not. Radio Shack used to sell also some cheap ($2-4) electret elements that also work fine but you have to power them which is not difficult.
