[Boatanchors] Audio Quality Comparison

The downside of the 160 is that it sports Hammarlunds “audio peaking” circuitry a la the 170/180.  As the audio level increases, the fidelity decreases and becomes peaked and restricted.  This “feature” can, however, be defeated fairly easily.

I’ve owned all three radios at different times.  My keeper ended up being the HQ-140.  Probably because it was the receiver we had in my High School radio club so there’s a connection, and I just like its looks sitting next to a Ranger .. :)
