Tragically, I understand there were orders to destroy them after the
war, and RCA stated they _did not_ want them back.  It seems
incredible now but in the 1940s the fabulous parts and almost
unobtainium like the CL meter and 3 in 1 oil filter cap were just
radio stuff and taken for granted.  I read somewhere that a dry water
well was filled up with junked AR88s.  However many seemed to survive
and I think in Russia, they said they destroyed them, but an awful lot
seemed to stick around there.  I hope these 88s are still in use
overseas.

The reports about performance are not an exaggeration.
