Ron -

Should you decide to ship the item somewhere, there is no need to build
a wooden crate. I have shipped many pieces of -hp- test equipment, some
quite heavy (think a 141T spectrum analyzer, with both plugins
installed) by using a heavy duty cardboard box and "foam in place"
cushioning. The local UPS store provides this service. It is not
cheap, about $50 for the box and foam for a 141T size instrument. Also,
I only ship via FedEx 2nd day air. I have never had an instrument
arrive with damage of any kind - and Alaska is a ways from anywhere else.

Also, there is an outfit that makes brass replacement gear sets for the
differential drives. Again, not free, but once replaced the problem is
solved permanently. My 8640B has had this treatment, and just keeps on
truckin'.

The 11710B is nice also. I use mine frequently, and it would take a LOT
of cash to convince me to let it go.
