David,

Those folks are likely members of the same group who think the spectrum display provided by their rig is a real spectrum analyzer and start playing pretend tech :)

I recall seeing the comments several years ago after an old timer was told his rig was "off channel" when he responded to a CQ by one of the kilocycle cops.  If someone gets bent out of shape because you are a few 10s of hertz off best to just move along to a friendlier "channel" :)  I got my novice ticket in 1975 so rock bound was no longer an issue but I still tuned around and found people after a CQ and then continued to tune to stay in contact offsetting the effects of their VFO and my receiver drift.
