[Boatanchors] antenna question

Depending on the age of the beam, I would suggest taking the antenna
down. Then physically open each trap, inspect, clean, check for good
hardware contacts, etc. If you never did this the entire time you've
owned the beam, now is probably a good time. If you find anything
unfixable, then purchase what you need. Forum repair and suggestions
sometimes leads you down the correct road but hand's on inspection is
hard to beat. Before hurricane Sandy hit my area, I took down my 5
element tri-bander. Before I put it back up, I opened up every trap to
clean, inspect, burnish contact areas, etc. Last time I did that was in
2000. I was amazed at the amount of crud and loose contact screws in
several of the traps.
