[Boatanchors] mystery item

I used to have an old facsimile machine from that era -as used by the 
newspapers of the time to send photographs of reasonable quality from around 
the country by phone or temporary leased line back to home base. It was 
supposedly a portable unit and comprised three separate very heavy units, a 
transmitter electronics unit, a power supply not unlike the one in the ebay 
listing and the photo scanner unit itself. (which I think I still have 
somewhere, a marvellous bit of mechanical engineering but heavy as ...)  It 
would have taken at least two men to transport it all in the transit cases.
