In my opinion nothing. Just a Name. The company I work for uses three
phase 480 Volt Variable Transformers to test High Power Power Supplies. I
am the lead Customer Service Technician. Each Power Station uses 480 AC
input and with a custom wound transformer we can get 0 -500, 0-440, and
0-250 out at up to 50 Amps. The variable transformers are made by
Superior and PowerStat.
