Correction: it is the radioblvd site that is referred
to above as having a large section of the RCA receivers, not
the qsl site.

I also forgot Nick Englund's Navy Radio site to which he
has directed you in another post.
The D version of the AR-88 had the AVC brought out the
back on terminals for use in simple diversity set ups. The
F and CR-88A have more extensive modifications, in
particular:
An IF monitor output.
A diode load connection
AVC connections on the back
Modified AVC bias ciecuit
IF gain trimmer on front panel.
None of the diversity receivers have S-meters. The signal
strength is monitored by a separate metering panel in the
diversity rack.
Few wartime receivers had S-meters, supposedly they were
in short supply and were not necessary. If you can find a
meter and mounting hardware they are easy to install.
Receivers without meters have an illuminated panel in place
of the meter. The lamp in the bracket for the label is used
for the meter if one is later installed.
On the AR-88F and CR-88A the hole in the back panel for
the meter adjusting pot is used for the IF monitor
connector.
