List,
Since we *are* talking about older tube radios, I do believe the relay
that drops on loss of power is plenty adequate. That is just like
turning off the power switch.
We are NOT talking about SS radios.
I've got plenty of surge protection installed.
The biggest thing anyone needs to worry about are close lightning
strikes that can, and I might add, *do* fry coaxial cables.
My daughter had one of these darn near to her house in a thunderstorm.
It was NOT a direct hit.
However, her DirectTV cable from the receiver to the distribution
box/amplifier melted.
The dish was NOT struck! The receiver wasn't hurt.
