I met Wayne on a mountain top in NH many years ago, when I was 'hilltopping' with my 6M AM radio. He was a true visionary. I was in my mid 20s at the time (mid 60s now). I remember him telling me about 'the future'....
He told me about the following, which he predicted would be 'big'.....

1. 2 Meter FM. This was well before the interest started. I thought it was too much like CB. Although in later years, I bought, used and enjoyed 2 Meter FM. Kinda faded away now....
2. Cell phones. He told me to get involved and purchase cell stock, etc. I thought, "who the heck would want to use a phone away from home, in the car, etc"......
3. Personal Computers. Again, I thought, "who the heck would want to mess with this stuff"....

It was a few years later that I got my job with IBM and a few years later, when IBM developed the first 'portable' PC... We called it the 'luggable'.......size of a suitcase... ha ha

If I had only followed his advice.................

You will be missed, my friend.

If I remember correctly, he served on the USS Drum, currently a museum ship
along with battleship USS Alabama just east of Mobile, AL. I have toured both
vessels in the past; VERY interesting.

I just finished viewing one item on the TenderTales that Sherry Guttery posted
(below).

I read the whole story of the "Fulton" and the crewmember/writer mentioned that
the first sub he ever saw was the USS DRUM, the boat on which Wayne served at
one time. Some coincidence, eh?

One of our pioneers and a fellow submariner has gone to his rest. ?73 old-timer.
?To quote from the final episode of Victory at Sea, "To these men, free men
everywhere owe their victory on land, their victory in the air, their Victory at
Sea."? ?Bravo Zulu sailor!

I met Mr Green at Dayton many years ago. He was accompanied by an entourage of
several beautiful YL's (probably his technical advisors) and was greeting many
of the vendors and complementing them on their products, services, and efforts.

What a "Larger than Life" character. He always exhibited a positive and
uplifting outlook on life. As he passed through the crowd at that particular
Hamvention?- (I can't remember what year it was) ?he stopped and took the time
to have a few words and shake hands with everyone that wanted to greet him.?

As many of you know Wayne served in WW II and was a former USN Radioman and
Submariner. He is now on "Eternal Patrol"

so...

Officer of the Deck - Surface the Boat
Chief of the Watch -Conduct a ?Low Pressure Blow on all Main Ballast Tanks
Helmsman - Steer course 090
Planesman - lock your stern planes at 7 degrees up
Engineer - All Ahead 2/3rds ?Make goin' home turns

73 Wayne de Howie K3HW?
