Bill,

Believe me - you are better off!  I have spent most of my life having 
the doctor perform my hearing tests - AFTER the Technician got results 
that he complained could not be.

Time after time the Doctor would conduct the test, then take me into his 
office and explain that I was hearing in the sensitivity range of an animal.

It is absolutely NO fun at all!  I always have used ear plugs AND ear 
muffs when going to the firing range.

I've done my very best to keep it as good as possible.

Personally, I'd *much* rather hear what the majority does.  It can be 
VERY annoying.
