Hi George,
	That's strange, to use a 6U8 in a calibrator.  It's a dual tube, triode 
and pentode, usually used as a "convertor" or where the triode is the 
oscillator and the pentode the mixer.  Maybe it just uses the triode 
secn, a calibrator rarely uses/needs an amp after, which the pentode 
could provide.
	Also strange that it's on all the time, and that the rcvr quits hearing 
when you remove the tube.
	Have you googled and looked at all the skem's that are out there to see 
if anything matches what you have?
	Lotsa strange things I think.
