[Boatanchors] Jackson brothers (style) reduction drives

Hi, I need a bit of help here. I have restored many a radio with these 'ball' type reduction drives. In fact, I have a pair of Swans that are almost completed.
Is there a way to tighten them up??? One of the Swans is nice and tight, the other is very loose. It appears someone in the past sprayed it with penetrating oil. Is the 'secret' in the type of grease or is it a mechanical thing?. I have several spare drives that are nice and tight, but the shaft length is too short.

Any experts out there???
