Dick,
What you are talking about, I think, is a tool (was?) made
by Xcelite. Not
sure what it was called but they made 2 sizes that I know
of, for the 1/8"
and 3/32" size jack retainer nuts for miniature phone and
mic. I have them
both, but can only locate one right now. It is Green and
model number
TW-32, the other has a Blue handle. Has an aligning pin and
the spanner for
the slots.
Did a search on Xcelite (Cooper Tools) catalog and didn't
see them there??
The other tool some have mentioned for the screws in the PL
plugs, the one I
have, is a Western Electric KS 2348. Much, much smaller
size. And center
pin is spring loaded.

I know what you are talking about and have them. These
are tools for the knurled nuts used on headphone jacks and
switches. The thing I was describing is for nuts that have
a slot across the top. The wrench must go over whatever
shaft comes out and have teeth to fit the slots. Don't see
many of these. The other thing was the special tool to fit
the screws in Bell System and military phone plugs. These
are flat head screws with dots and slots. The tool has a
spring loaded pin in the center which will hold the screw as
its installed or removed. may of these screws are hollow.
I am not quite sure which kind of tool is being asked
about. It may be something different than any of these.
