The (only) common failure mode for military FT-243 crystals I have ever
found is for one or both of the brass contact plates to break at the pigtail
that goes down into the pin. These are fairly easily repairable but require a
donor holder made by the same contractor as virtually every contractor used
a different shape of contact plate. I have repaired many of them and have
never found one with a bad crystal blank.
FT-241 crystals are a different story entirely.
