Since the thread started i might as well add to it. I have, sitting out in the garage a 1930's era transmitter. Wood frame and shelves with wood boards for the chassis on the various transmitter departments. I have found several of the units, power supply, Oscillator and PA deck in the 1934 ARRL handbook. The output uses an 830 and the xtal Osc uses a "59". I've got the 830 and somewhere i think i have the 59. The power supply uses an 80. It needs an overhaul to say the least but its classic as is its age. I've got pictures if anyone is interested in seeing them or in taking this thing off my hands. I think (at this early hour) its about 4 ft tall. I can handle the whole thing fairly easy as far as moving it goes.

Also out in the storage shed (out of the weather, dry and clean) is another 30's era rack with only the power supplies. Uses 866 or 866jr tubes of which i have. Bought it years ago from an OT over in California Seems he told me it was of mid to late 30's design which he never got to finish. Nice solidly built rack. Only front panels are on the two power supplies of course and are Masonite i think it was called.

Thing about these units is that they have the hard to find are the expensive power supply components. Check Ebay for 5, 7.5V or 10V transformers if you think the world is still rightside up! Swinging chokes or chokes with values over 8 mh are indeed hard to come by. Kinda like the good big variety of capacitors one might use in building one of these things. Just building a modulator can set you back several days lunch with the boys, or beers if you'd rather. Maybe picking up some of that old scrap stuff you see laying around in salvage places or at hamfests would be worth it in parts alone.
