[Boatanchors] 10 meters

If you watch the propagation charts on a regular basis, you can generally
figure out where there is 10 meter action. As I type, European stations
are having a 10 meter Sporadic E opening with lots of signals.
Generally, late Spring through late Summer, the only real 10 meter
activity is via Sporadic E. Been that way for as long as I can remember.
I was on 10 meter SSB yesterday, off and on, from late afternoon through
the evening, and worked from NJ, stations west of the Mississippi,
central America, two in South America, and Hawaii. Having a 4 element
beam helps to gather the signals in and my signal out. Very rarely do I
ever go look for someone calling CQ; I generally find a frequency clear
of real signals, birdies, and other crud, and call CQ myself, once,
twice, or 20 times if I have to. Of course, having an automatic CQ voice
caller helps to not make you sound desperate after the 6th or 8th CQ with
no answers. If you have no patience, then maybe that band is not for you.
