There was an article in Ham Radio magazine, sometime in the 70's, I think,
by Bill Orr, about building a transmitter with 2 45's in parallel. He
claimed it was the most popular transmitter of the early '30s if not of all
time.
Unimaginable as it seems now, 45's were at one time about the cheapest tube
there was, and often available for free or "borrowed" from broadcast sets.
If you've got the tubes, it would make a nice combination with an SW-3 or
something like it.
