Hi Rob,

I haven't heard anybody on CW on 160 most of the summer. Sometimes I
listen to some guys on SSB up above 1900. The QSO I snagged was on 80
meters. On 80 that wire is approximately a half wave. While I was tuning
for maximum smoke I made several CQ calls. On RBN the signal kept going
out farther and stronger. And I got a nice QSO out of it. I can't tune
that way with the solid state rigs. The SWR at 50 ohms was horrid! Would
send transistor finals packing. Not so far out that it hurt the Pi
network or the 6146s. And RBN heard nothing from me on 40 meters when I
was on 80 and nothing on 80 or 40 when I was on 160 (whew). I listened
on 160 yet again around the gray line - nada.

Everything 50 ohms and 1.0000000:1.000000 SWR is NOT the end all - be all.

The other ham on 80 was Jon, W8TY. If I hear him on we'll go at it
again. I'll have more paper handy!

73,

Bill KU8H
