[Boatanchors] Guy Wire Insulator Placement

Tnx guys for all the comments.
Al, it was also good to see you at the Cary fest. It's a small
gathering but the quality of attendees is very good. Plus I
usually find a few goodies and always see some good friends.

Here is an update on the tower situation.
The tower (85ft) with the TH6DXX and a few side arms came
down, in one piece, this morning with out incident...except
the boom truck got stuck...took about an hr to get it out.
So the antenna project now is to try to get the sections
apart plus dismantle the TH6DXX and replace the tower/antenna.
Anyone need a TH6DXX?...free for the pick up (east of Raleigh NC)
and of course, fill up the tire ruts.

I agree with you AL..for practical purposes, I think the new
antenna will work fine w/o the guys being broken up. The tower
location is within 30ft of 85ft + pine trees...they have grown
taller than when I originally put up the antenna. Indeed, a poor
location so I doubt if breaking up the guy wires would be much
help plus that would be a lot of work with little return on labor.
I hope to re-use a few sections and go up to 50-60 ft. I am
considering a Cushcraft MA5B...just a compromise, but will give me
five bands, 20-10mtrs. I don't have room for a crank-up or tilt over.

Now, if I can just find someone close by to put up the new one....

Hi Bill,
Nice to see you Sat. at the Cary fest. Too bad we didn't get a chance
to chat some more.
        I've had 50ft, 70ft, and lower towers, always with a tri-band beam,
plus wires hanging off. Never broke the guys with any insulators, don't
think that caused any problems, but who knows. Made it to DXCC in the
early 80's b4 I, as you, lost most interest in DX.
