Hi guys. I did subscribe to the Swan Group on Yahoo yesterday.... Of course, the first looong posting I tried bounced... Ah, well.
Here's what I think is the root of my problem, please bear with me:
I have 2 nice Swan 250Cs (I know, I know). Both receive excellent, and exactly the same, when using my HP 606A SG. One has NO xmit output. I have discovered this is a common problem with these radios.
Not being an x-spurt on xtal filters, I measured the in-circuit resistance of the xtal filters.
The 'good' radio measures 300K ohms. The 'bad' radio measures 36M ohms. I got to this point by 'scoping the signal. Very little carrier balance seen on the scope. The manual is very cryptic on xmitter alignment.
Since the local Radio Shack is out of Swan IF Filters...... I just can't understand why both receivers are exactly the same, but no xmit. The block diagram shows a signal path through the IF Filter???? Yeah, I can swap them, but I need to understand the problem......
Strange, indeed........
thank you,
ron

Richard,
By now you realize the bridge is working as it should. One
to be careful with is when you test large caps at higher
voltages. When you are through with the test turn the
voltage down slowly rather than rapidly slamming it to zero
because if you the cap will be discharging into a very low
resistance (the wiper to the ground end of the pot) which
will fry the end of the pot.
Thats good to know. I am a little surprised the thing
works. I get good sharp indications from the magic eye tube.
I would hate to fry it.

+1 for that Jim......or N4UE, take the request to the Swan list.
I'm familiar with the 240 so you might just tell us what the problem
is.....might get lucky!

Ron, I won't speak for others but I would like to follow your progress so
consider keeping the discussion here. Maybe someone who reads the digest
won't see your message for over a week and would have great knowledge to
share with the group.
I know very little about Swan Radios so this would be nice to read.
