There is some stuff like this that forms on Teletype keys. I thought it was mold, but someone said it is a plasticizer compound and that heat from a hair dryer will melt it. I haven't tried that yet - last time I had to clean some I used a green pot scrubber. jhhaynes at earthlink dot net
