[Boatanchors] Stiff Heath HX 20 dial drive

If I recall correctly the HX-20 drive is much like the HG-10 drive.

I don't think you want to lube it. You probably need to disassemble it and
clean it.

My mind says it used ant-backlash gears. They may be stuck. If so the only
solution is disassembly and cleaning.

Heath used that same basic drive in many of the radio products of that
period. The Apache/Mohawk, MR-1/MT-1 HX-20/HR-20(?), and HG-10.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Stiff Heath HX 20 dial drive

The Heath HX 20 transmitter, I have , has a very stiff VFO knob and dial
drive. I had one that I built about 50 years ago from a kit and I don't
remember the dial and VFO drive on that one being as stiff as this one is.
Has anyone worked with the HX 20 VFO and dial drive to make it smooth and
easy to turn. I don't want to attempt to lubricate it and free it up until I
get the benefit of the input of other operators with knowledge and
experience with the HX 20 BFO knob and drive assembly. If you have any input
please share it with me. Thanks and 73, John, K5PGW
