First test of ANY microphone is place O'scope across the mic element.

The normal background noise - a fan, TV, wife, etc., will first let me
know if the element is alive or not to bother.

Have a "Old Matthew Broderick" Highway Patrol mic, stand, and element.
Passes all tests with never doing other than above.

If it needs DCV, I don't want it. Only place I use one like that are my
Dave Clark headphone/microphone for flying. I use an intercom box with
left and right seat on VOX, others can only listen. I use a manual key
with Velcro to attach to the stick or yoke. Depends what I fly.
