Rod,
I don't dispute this now ancient ritual.
Based on the current Amateur Radio Operators that we all deal with, I'd
put it in the simple view that The Wouff Hong needs to be dusted off and
physically branded on this generation of Amateurs.
How we all like to see the end of "Bad operating practices" on our bands.
I won't poke fun. While I have never attended "The initiation ceremony ritual", I certainly have gone through a few such ritual ceremonies during my military career.
Having a new badge "pinned" to one's chest has gone on for an unknown number of decades. Yep! It hurts when a line of the Old School members of their group, either Airborne, Special Forces, or equally traditional achievements passes by each and every new "initiate" and slaps this badge that has it bare pins into your chest.
It is much like the historical and current Navy tradition when crossing the Equator. One goes through the initiation to attain the status of shellback. I am one that was on-board, and was initiated into the "community" even though I wasn't Navy at the time.
To be honest, these ceremonies are rituals that are constantly being performed to this day. I'll admit that the higher up the chain of command don't want to discuss, and have been trying to eliminate in the new politically correct society.
