Hi Scott,

No mulitiplication takes place inside the VFO box. The switched parts
change it from 160 meters to 40 meters or to a range that is later
multiplied to 11 meters. The multiplier switching is part of the
bandswitching assemblies outside the VFO box.

That 10 uf 700 volt electrolytic will be a slight pain due to the high voltage rating that is not available. I see that KE9PQ sells a Ranger recap kit that includes a 700v capacitor "tube". I'm not sure I'll go that route or just buy the caps separately. I assume the HV tube simply contains two 20 uf 350 or 400 volt caps in series, two equalizing resistors (maybe), then sealed in the tube with wires coming out. I think I can do that myself with two separate caps and resistors, then slide it in a piece of shrink tubing for electrical isolation and mechanical stability, and shrink it down.

When I have replaced the original can caps in the power supply filters I
have mounted the modern, much smaller caps (in series) on terminal
strips that are bolted to the chassis using the same screws holes as the
original mounting hardware. Keeping the internal appearance close to
'original' is of no value to me. Nobody else is going to be looking in
there. For me, that is in the same category as the color of my
underwear! If that's important to you then you should buy one of the
units that is offered by several sources or roll your own. You might go
so far as to remove the insides of the original and use it as a home for
the new caps.

I am not "hot rodding" mine, either.

73,
