By operating a tube at rated voltages, in most occasions, the getter will
absorb the gas that has escaped in old tubes after a period of time. But
you have to keep it operating for quite a while to accomplish that goal.
That may be a problem in an oscillator if you are in a hurry to get it
going. First run the filament for several hours then apply the plate,
screen and bias voltages that are required and watch the tube.
If the glow between elements disappears, it should perform.
