I had a stuck vfo pot on a Johnson Valiant.
It had been stuck for decades and there was no way I was going to free it
without damage.
I used Berryman's carb and choke spray which is a very thin liquid that will
dissolve the stuck mung in that pot.
I used a paint stripper hot air gun and the spray and kept trying to work
the pot until it came free....then lubed it with some silicone light oil.
No need to take it apart.
Works great...last a long time.

Subject: [Boatanchors] Removing potentiometer shaft question
I'm trying to repair a potentiometer with a stuck shaft.? Solvents and new
oil only temporarily loosen it.? It gets stuck again overnight.?
Has anyone discovered a practical way to remove the snap ring that secures a
pot's quarter inch shaft so that it can be removed, cleaned, lubed and
reassembled?? Is this do-able?? Efforts of mine in the past have only
destroyed the ring.?
Thanks & 73,
Wayne
