[Boatanchors] Globe King 500 idling power consumption

My Globe King 500A draws over 2 amps with filaments only running, 3 amps 
with exciter, and 5 amps with plate voltage applied but not keyed. Over 
9.5 amps on air at 500 watts input. All of these are with the modulator 
shut down; I have not measured its power consumption since my AC 
ammeter's full scale is 10 amps.

Has anyone tried to reduce these figures? Success?
