A 17-pound Cardwell variable capacitor followed me home from the local
DeAnza Ham Swap Meet. Does anyone have a Cardwell catalog from the
1930s or 1940s that lists this beautiful monster? Or, does anyone know what
transmitter might have used it? It is identified as “Type S, Model GF-35-JS.”
The thick solid bronze (or brass) plates are quite rounded and
spacing is .75 inches, so, I would guess it can handle 30kV!
Hmmm--now I need to find a matching tube!
