Well stated Francesco, different time and world. Spent a couple of hours
last weekend with a couple of the grandchildren hunting through some
decorative marble chips for iron pyrite crystals. Found a few and built a
crystal radio set. They were absolutely amazed --- this was as good for me
as for them.
Kindest regards Jim K9AXN

In Italy, the local Ham Radio organization (ARI) works very closely with
local churches and Scouts to spread the love for radios and seek new Ham
Radio recruits. Sardinia Radio QRP (look on the WEB) is an organization
that I support, and has done wonderful job getting kids to learn CW and get
a Ham Radio license. They don't use expensive gear, and strongly support
home radio building.
As no regulation can create jobs, no regulation can make people join ham
radio. The reality is that today there are so many distraction, that I am
pretty sure that it is hard for a kid to discover ham radio on his own.
Furthermore, kids today have a very busy schedules with sports and other
activities, and they have no time for self search.
When I was a kid, I was on my own to find things to do and discover my real
interest (with no money). That is how I developed a passion for radios,
airplanes and engineering.....

Francesco
