Depends - Which is it you wish to "turn off"?

If it is my BC-610, I use the power switch.

If it happens to be the latest thread:

First - Use the Delete Key.

Second - You can simply ignore it.

Third - If too disturbed - One can always unsubscribe.

Every single list gets off-topic for periods of time.  Most just choose 
to ride it through.  They eventually come back to the general postings 
as usual.
