Gentlemen,

Let's get a couple of things straightened out.

I have 'never' blocked posts on this list, or any other list I attempt to
manage. Most subscribers cooperate if asked to do or not do something.

The policy about no EBAY links being on the lists is not mine. It was Al
Waller's, K3TKJ, the founder and former list owner. I have never made the
rules, I have just tried to follow the ones I was instructed to follow.

I have sent a message to the new owner, Scott Neder, KA9FOX, and asked him
what his policy on posting links to EBAY on a 'qth.net' list, as well as any
other related posts.

When I receive a reply from the new owner, I will post my original request
and his reply to this list. Unedited!

Whatever the list owner wants, is what the policy shall be. It is his
choice, not mine!

It is always easier to blame the other guy. Understanding the "why" behind
the list rules set forth by the list owner is another matter. The reason for
the 'qth.net' lists, was, and still is, to provide a discussion platform for
Ham Radio operators, and radio hobbyists, on a wide variety of topics. When
one opens the door here for subscribers to post links to EBAY for items they
are selling, the danger of losing the topic for a list becomes very real.
That was why the no link policy came to be in the first place.

The current owner may have different views. Al Waller, K3TKJ was a Ham
running an information service for other Hams on a voluntary contribution
basis. How much did Al love the hobby? Every year he ended up having to use
a minimum of $40,000 of "his" own money to keep the lists operating!

Now Scott, KA9FOX is also a Ham, but he also happens to be a businessman
too. He has different ways of funding the lists and operating them. NO
criticism intended here! Al and Scott are two different people. Because of
different management approaches these lists have changed. Most is not
obvious to you, the subscribers. But let us stop faulting one and another
and expressing how we would do things "if" we were in charge. Let's hear
what Scott has to say about EBAY. His way is also our way.
