[Boatanchors] List owner and e-Bay

There should be some clarity on the "ownership" matter some list
members subscribe to, and demand we have to buy-in or else.
The list owner is the collective membership that places their
voices, ideas and opinions in context into the e-mails we receive.
The listserver owner is QTH - a no brainer. Duane is simply the
custodian of the Boatanchors list, appointed by the membership to
manage the chores of maintaining the list and ensuring the
Boatanchor policies are followed (thank you, Duane). The custodian
owns nothing more than his personal contributions. It is the
membership that defines the "rules" (policies) and if the custodian
fails to execute the "rules" than you replace that position with
someone who can.
In Duane's defense, if there is such a "rule" or "policy" not to
recognize e-Bay's existence or utter a link, than Duane is doing
his job as custodian. However, if there IS a formal policy agreed
upon by the membership, then perhaps it is time for the membership
to review the policy and determine if it still is relevant.
Personally, I think any such rule is about as dumb as banning
references to Dayton Hamfest, Shelby Hamfest, Mouser, Jameco,
Allied Radio, Bry Carling, Martyn Allison, or any other source of
parts and equipment we buy, sell and enjoy. The DELETE key works
wonders for personal censorship - try using it rather than
legislating morals on the membership. That job is reserved for the
Taliban............
I suggest that Duane call for a vote from the membership, in the
form of e-mail response to the list to keep it above board, and if
the collective will is for or against e-bay, adjust the Boatanchor
policy accordingly.
