I replaced the power cord on a Henry Tempo 2001 linear just a couple of weeks ago for a client. He wanted the cord 10 feet long. Home Depot has 10-3 power cord available in the "per foot" rack and the cost was like $16 for the 10-foot section. 10 gauge should be plenty heavy for 120 VAC operation of the HT-33. In the case of the Tempo 2001, it is being operated on 240 VAC and 12 gauge would be plenty heavy, especially since 14 gauge came on the amplifier from Henry. However, at least at my Home Depot, 12 gauge is "special order" and I definitely didn't need 500 feet!

Subject: [Boatanchors] Power Cord size
I am refurbishing a Hallicrafters Amplifier 1950s vintage ( HT33A) with PL172A/8295 amplifier tube. Total maximum power consumption is approximately 2,800 watts at 115 vac.. The transformer is 115 volt primary ONLY.
I am replacing the two conductor power cord with a three conductor power cord and am interested in using rubber covered SO type flexible cord with stranded wire. I propose using about 10 feet of power cord.
I have an idea about what gauge copper wire should be in the power cord, but would appreciate some input regarding recommended conductor size in the three wire power cord and best type cord and place to acquire the three conductor power cord
Please give me your tips. 73, John, K5PGW "Old Geezer Radio"
